FENZ Update from Christine McGinty, Community Risk Manager

Fire and Emergency NZ in Taranaki is made up of 1 career station in New Plymouth and 19 volunteer stations around the district. We have 419 volunteers with a black watch team that supports them.

We have a Community Risk Management team that consists of 6 dedicated members. They are our Risk Reduction Advisors and our Community Readiness and Recovery advisors.

Our Risk Reduction Advisors look after things in our built and natural environment from our Major Hazard Facilities to Fire-fighting water supplies. They also undertake building compliance including site visits and the approval of evacuation schemes, fire alarm panels and give fire safety advice to building owners and fire engineers, as well as a host of other things.

Our Community Readiness & Recovery Advisors undertake all our education programs in schools and pre-schools, they also conduct Home Fire Safety Visits and give Fire Safety talks to community groups. They also attend a lot of community events giving advice to the public on safety in and around the home. We can also install your smoke alarms for you.

All our advice and services are free and if we can be of assistance to you, please contact us at the New Plymouth Fire Station (06 351 3930) or email the CRM team at:  crmtaranaki@fireandemergency.nz
