The recent Tradies Tools Down event in conjunction with Building Wellness Taranaki, held on April 27th at the TSB Stadium, proved to be a resounding success, drawing in over 700 industry workers and managers for an afternoon of inspiration and support. The event featured esteemed guest speaker All Black legend and Wellbeing Advocate Sir John Kirwan, whose powerful insights resonated deeply with attendees. Mayor Neil Holdom, councillors, and representatives from front-line health and community services, joined in solidarity with the construction and related industries, emphasising the importance of mental wellbeing. Six mental health and community service providers set up stalls, offering invaluable resources and support to attendees. The overwhelming support received exceeded expectations, demonstrating our community’s collective commitment to prioritising mental wellbeing.
Positive feedback has poured in from attendees, highlighting the impact of the event in fostering a supportive community and providing access to practical tips and resources to improve their wellbeing. Tradies Tools Down continues to be a beacon of hope and support, empowering individuals to prioritise their mental health and that of their colleagues.
The significant investment made by employers and businesses, primarily from the industry, to support staff attendance reflects a profound cultural shift towards promoting mental health. When considering factors such as time off the tools, the usual hourly rate paid for attendance, and the number of attendees, the total industry investment is estimated at approximately $122,500. This investment yields a significant return on investment (ROI) of $287,875, demonstrating the tangible impact and commitment of the industry to mental wellbeing.
